Kirit Wadhia

Principal Environmental Consultant

Dr Kirit Wadhia, who joined Opus in early 2013, is a hugely experienced eco-toxicologist with a wide range of skills and knowledge of the chemical industry.

His role involves technical sales and business development, as well as direct consultancy on specific projects. He has previously supported Opus staff on the preparation of a comprehensive business plan for its Environmental Business Platform which will drive forward growth plans.

An environmental scientist with management and substantial applied research experience, his key skills include business strategy development, project management, analytical assessment and the implementation of ecotoxicology consultancy and regulations.

His membership of national and international organisations has included the Institute of Biology, Institution of Environmental Sciences, British Ecological Society, Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management, Association of Consulting Scientists, Society for Experimental Biology, the Federation of European Societies for Plant Physiology and the Institution of Water and Environmental Management.

He represents Opus on European Oilfield Speciality Chemicals Association (EOSCA) and on the UK Chemical Working Group. Kirit has been an active member UK’s MCERTS Direct Toxicity Assessment (DTA) steering committee, Standing Committee of Analysts (SCA), International Symposium on Toxicity Assessment (ISTA) and the Society for Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety (SECOTOX).

Kirit was recently appointed as a member of the British Standards Institute (BSi) committee and is current president of UK Society of Environmental Toxicity and Analytical Chemistry (SETAC).

A graduate of Applied Biology from Brunel University, London, Kirit was later a research fellow at Sheffield University before setting up an environmental consultancy Environmental Pollution and Assessment Services.

He was marketing manager for MFP Ltd, then an independent consultant ecotoxicologist before spending five years as principal ecotoxicologist with ALcontrol Laboratories Management from 2001.

He latterly worked for microbiology and chemical analysis company NCIMB Ltd where he was a consultant ecotoxicologist and applications specialist and then ecotoxicology services manager with responsibility for managing and developing the ecotoxicological services department.
